S & S
Meat Company has been in business since 1926, it was founded
by John Scavuzzo. Scavuzzo traveled from Palermo, Italy in 1909,
and in 1911, he opened his first butcher shop in Chicago. He
later moved to Centerville, Iowa, where he worked in the retail
meat business, and in 1926, he settled in Kansas City and established
S & S meat company.
John Scavuzzo had three sons, Santo, Eddie, and Carl. They all joined
their father to help run S & S. The three sons helped their father
until they were called to serve their country in World War II. When they
returned, they continued in the business with their father and three sisters,
Helen, Grace and Mary. Santo (years later), took over as president and
ran S & S by himself. |

when he, (like his father) was called to serve his country. In

rejoined his father, and worked by his side until Santo passed
away in 1985.
